Do I need to bring my own musical instrument?

No, you do not need to bring an instrument. The workshop focuses on songwriting techniques and collaboration, so instruments are not necessary.

Is professional songwriting experience required to participate in the workshop?

No, the workshop is designed to benefit both beginners and experienced songwriters. Our mentors will tailor their guidance to fit various skill levels.

What materials or preparations should I make before attending?

It’s beneficial to come prepared with any song ideas or questions you have, as well as a notebook and pen for taking notes during the sessions.

Will there be opportunities to receive personalized feedback on my songwriting?

Yes, there will be sessions for personal feedback from the mentors, providing valuable insights into your songwriting style and technique.

What is included in the workshop schedule?

The workshop schedule includes interactive sessions with mentors, group collaborations, and individual writing time, all designed to maximize learning and creativity throughout the day. There will be a break with lunch provided.

Jay Semko

Bass/vocals with Western Canadian Music Hall of Fame members The Northern Pikes, award-winning composer for numerous film and TV productions, solo artist (10 albums), songwriter with two-time SCMA Award winner. Mentored at Songrise Music Conference and hosted songwriting circles with SOCAN, Canadian Country Music Week, and Saskmusic. 

Earl Pereira

3-time JUNO nominee and 9-time WCMA award-winning artist. Frontman/bassist for The Steadies, who performed at the 2022 Grey Cup. Co-founded Wide Mouth Mason and has toured with The Rolling Stones, The Wailers, Van Morrison, and The Tragically Hip. As a music mentor for Sask Music, he has coached over 200 artists and bands at high-profile conferences over the past 12 years.
